Finding a stylish place to stay when travelling can be challenging, especially if you don’t wish to spend money or waste hours pouring over ho-hum home exchange listings. Enter Behomm.com, the brainchild of graphic designers Agustin Juste and Eva Calduch. The Barcelona-based couple have created a site dedicated to discriminating (read: picky) creatives and design lovers.
Launched three years ago, Behomm elegantly showcases over 2,300 jaw-droppingly stylish properties, owned by members from 63 different countries.
Membership is available by invitation only and properties aren't judged by fancy address or square footage – rather, it's all on pure aesthetics. 'We can get very happy when a small home filed with second-hand furniture wants to join. We like thoughtful design and don’t confuse luxury with good taste,' explains Juste.
Registration is free for the first year and €95 thereafter. This allows you to list your home, search for and view other homes and contact members in a secure system that hides your personal contact info until you wish to reveal it.
But it’s not just about finding free accommodation on an anonymous website. Behomm fosters community and connections between people with shared interests. 'It’s about a shared economy. We do believe that sharing is the future,' says Juste, who donates 5 per cent of the company's proceeds to Archive Global, an international non-profit using architectural design to combat disease.
