Giorgio Armani S/S 2017

Mood board: Giorgio Armani dubbed his latest collection ‘Charmani’ — an obvious wink to the fluttering frocks and breezy Bermuda shorts that floated over his spring runway. The mood was light, airy and eclectic this season, with Mr. A piling on his favorite exoticism in the form of printed blooms, pools of sequins and loads of layering.
Best in show: The elan of this accomplished designer comes into razor sharp focus when he keeps things simple. There was a magnificent evening ensemble – the second from last exit – crafted entirely of liquid crystals that was so beautifully modest in its cut and proportion that it far outshone any other trick on the runway. Equally effective was a simply swirling-print navy blue long sleeved cocktail dress that had no other accompaniment but a whoosh of fringe trim around the knees.
Finishing touches: Armani loves a little extra oomph in the accessories department and this season he sent out flat hats that were the exact size and shape of a pizza which came plastered to the back of his models heads. He wisely kept his heels low or flat on sandals crafted from plastic cages.
