Find a slice of Meguro style on one of Melbourne’s premier dining and entertainment streets. Brewers Sharlyn and Yuta Kobayashi of Toji Sake called in local architecture firm Carr to create Eazy Peazy.
The wasabi green facade opens to the street thanks to a bifold window. The limestone-toned minimalist interior features two partitions created by hand-poured sand between panes of glass that create divisions between eating spaces. Hand-trowelled render applied vertically creates texture behind caramel-coloured leather banquettes and light-toned timber tables. There is also seating at the concrete bar.
Chef Dan Chan, formerly of Hong Kong’s Yardbird, is in charge of the hibachi kitchen. Crowd-pleasing yakatori dishes, like chicken wings dusted with yuzu salt, are served alongside small plates including smoked beef tartare and duck gyoza. Both variations of Toji Sake, junmai daiginjo and junmai ginjo, are on the drinks list, as are Japanese beers and cocktails like the MSG, a blend of matcha, sake and gin.
